1. Do I really need a burglar alarm?
Homes and businesses that have a professional alarm installed are less likely to have an attempted break-in. But, for the few customers who do, those attempts are usually not successful.
2. How else can I make my home or business more secure?
- Install good quality deadbolt door locks.
- Close and lock all of your doors and windows when leaving.
- Install good perimeter lighting around your home or business.
- If you’re heading out of town, have someone you trust take care of your newspapers and mail, or have their delivery stopped for the duration of your trip.
- Set up one or two interior lights to turn on in the evening for a period of time.
- Remove any large bushes that hide your windows.
3. Can Denalect monitor my fire alarm without having to monitor a burglar alarm as well?
Yes, we’ll monitor your fire alarm system and notify the fire department in the rare instance of a fire. We can also install professional smoke and heat detectors, which will give your family an early warning if there is a fire.
4. How much does a new alarm system cost?
We have basic alarm systems starting at $199.00, but the total cost is determined by how many sensors are needed as well as the type of monitoring service you choose. For a free security survey and estimate, call us toll-free at 1 (800) 273-2680.
5. How do I turn off my alarm if it activates?
Check your owner’s manual, visit our web site for your system’s operating instructions, or call our 24 hour Service Department at 1 (800) 273-2680 or (925) 935-2680. For quick reference, the following applies to most Denalect Security Systems:
- For a Two Position Key Operated System: Turn the key to the off position.
- For a Spring Key Lock System with a red armed lamp: Turn the key and release to turn off the system.
- For a Digital Keypad System: Enter your user code.
6. My keypad is beeping. How do I silence it?
Visit our web site “Arming & Silencing Alarms” for the on system operating instructions, check your owner’s manual, or call our 24 hour Service Department at 1 (800) 273-2680 or (925) 935-2680.
7. If the Central Station calls, what information will I need to give them?
They will probably ask you a variety of questions to determine that you are OK and that you are who you say you are.
8. If I call the Central Station, what information will I need to give them?
We’ll need your name and your address, plus some personal information to identify you.
9. What safety precautions should I take if I go out of town?
Call and tell our Central Station at (925) 935-2680. Also, for the duration of your trip, stop your newspaper subscription and mail, or have someone you trust pick them up.
10. Who should be listed on the Emergency Callout List, and how many names should I provide?
We prefer a list of three people who have access to your home or business. If you don’t have three names, give us what you have. Those listed should have a key and alarm code to your property.
11. What information do my employees need to know if they trigger the alarm?
Any employees that have a key to the building should also have an alarm key or code. We will expect them to be able to turn off the alarm and provide proper identification.
12. If an alarm activates at my home or business, how long does it take for the police to arrive?
It depends on how close an officer is to your home or business. In our experience, customers who have few or no false alarms tend to experience a faster response time than those with frequent false alarms.
13. What should I do if my fire alarm activates while I’m cooking or burning wood in my fireplace?
First, protect yourself and your family. If you determine there is no risk, silence the fire alarm following the alarm silence procedure in your owner’s manual. Then call Denalect’s Central Station to cancel or confirm the fire department’s response. After determining the cause of the alarm, reset the fire alarm following the reset procedure in your owner’s manual.
14. Can I arm the alarm system in a few rooms in my home or business while leaving other areas unarmed?
Yes. Many alarm systems allow you to bypass different zones, such as a group of doors and/or windows, while still providing protection for the rest of the home.
15. What if I let someone into my home or business and they pull a gun on me?
Follow their instructions to preserve you and your employees or your family’s lives. When possible, call 911. If you can’t call 911 safely, press your alarm’s panic button. Your alarm may have other panic features, be sure to learn about them in your owner’s manual or from the installation technician.
